Day 22 – Adding to my List

Today I am challenged to dream big. I will add a few more things to the life checklist I created yesterday, and my focus will be goals or achievements that I imagine will bring me genuine happiness.

The three items I added to the end of yesterday’s list are all aspirational, yet achievable goals. I will add 3 additional items to my list today.

  • Incorporate DEI into my professional career in an official capacity. I am passionate about human and civil rights, and I believe I can affect even greater positive change in the world by having dedicated DEI work as a part of my job responsibilities. I am starting a new job in 2 weeks so I will give myself 18 months to 2 years to reach this goal.

  • Write a graphic novel, find someone to illustrate it, and publish the darn thing. I’ve had an idea for a black and white 1 shot graphic novel for years but I am not a skilled illustrator and need to find someone to commit to drawing and inking the imagery that will accompany my story. I would like to accomplish this task by the time I’m 45 years old.

  • I want to take my son back to NYC in 10 years to celebrate my 50th birthday. I had such an amazing time with him last year celebrating my 40th birthday and I think we’ll have even more fun next time because we know a little bit about getting around the city. Time to start saving again. It took me a decade to save enough last time and the cost of everything continues to grow.

I’d like to add a couple of goals that I didn’t list yesterday that I completed that brought me joy.

  • I walked the talk in 2021 and ran for public office when I saw a need that was going unfulfilled in my district. The individual who possessed the school board seat for my neighborhood voted against an antidiscrimination policy for the school district. When the role was up for election, I filed to be a candidate on the ballot. I didn’t win, but I am very proud of the energy I put into the election.

  • Attend International ComicCon in San Diego, CA. I’ve loved comic books since I was young, and I longed to attend comic book conventions. 10 years ago, I found myself in a place where I was financially stable, and able to save for a vacation. My spouse, my kiddo, and I flew to San Diego and spent 2 days at Con, one day at Sea World, and one day at the beach. It was a surreal experience.

  1. Last year, my friend Molly, her sister, and I traveled to Texas to see Green Day, Weezer, and Fall Out Boy in concert. It was a dream come true. I’ve wanted to see Green Day in concert since I was a teenager. In fact, one of Green Day’s songs, Pollyanna, written and recorded in 2021, inspired the topic for the book I began writing this year. My book is titled: Be More Pollyanna.
