Day 68 – Defining Growth
Today, I am challenged to explore the word “growth” and what it means to me. Growth can encompass various aspects of personal, professional, and even societal development. Growth is an ongoing journey and a continuous process. We must embrace it.
Sitting in my living room, allowing myself to be distracted by the DC film Birds of Prey, and my adorably snuggly doggo, I’ve let nearly two hours pass by as the word “growth” marinated in the juices of my mind.
I’m going to focus on emotional and personal growth for this post. I believe that we can be emotionally well and thriving, and then suffer a loss that can set us back. Life is comprised of slow, arduous steps forward and abrupt, unexpected, and sometimes painful steps back.
The importance of resilience, adaptability, and a growth mindset cannot be understated when facing setbacks or unexpected life events. Common obstacles I’ve faced when striving for emotional and personal growth include self-doubt and external pressures of meeting familial and societal expectations (not to mention meeting my own expectations).
I have implemented mindfulness tactics into my everyday activities, I’ve adopted goal setting at the start of the day and self-reflection activities such as writing down my experiences and emotions. When I’ve found myself stuck, I am eager to seek support from others, and I try to always have at least one self-education book in my “currently reading” list.
I will continue to explore the word 'growth,' not only as a concept but as a living, breathing reality in life—and a testament to resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to becoming my best self.
