Day 70 - Dealing with Missing Classwork: A Parent's Guide
Day seventy of the Hello, Fears Challenge is being supplanted by a school concern that needed addressing. Imagine this scenario: your child diligently completes assignments and turns them in, only to discover that some classwork has mysteriously vanished into thin air. Important grades from past assignments are nowhere to be found. These situations can have far-reaching consequences, affecting GPAs and undermining a student's motivation.
In our case, my kiddo reached out to the school counselor immediately after his frustrating interaction with a teacher to promptly address his concerns. I was instructed to send an email to the teacher. Open and respectful communication with teachers is key to resolving such issues.
After all, teachers are partners in a child's education. I’m hoping the teacher responds positively, and we can have a discussion on how to rectify the situation.
Below are 4 tips for parents and students to help avoid the grading blunder we’re experiencing at my son’s school.
Open Communication: Encourage your child to communicate openly with their teachers about any grade-related concerns.
Document Assignments: Advise your child to keep copies of their assignments and homework, providing evidence in case disputes arise.
Regularly Check Gradebooks: Make it a habit to check online gradebooks regularly for discrepancies, ensuring timely intervention if needed.
Respectful Approach: When addressing issues with teachers, maintain a polite and respectful tone, fostering a constructive dialogue.
In the world of education, accurate and timely grading is paramount. As parents and students, we must be proactive in addressing grading discrepancies.
