Day 85 – Setting and Doubling Goals

Today’s challenge is to think about my goal(s) for the next year and then imagine what doubling the goal could look like. Setting goals is a crucial step in our journey of personal growth and self-improvement. They give us direction, purpose, and motivation to strive for something better. However, striking the right balance between setting ambitious goals and ensuring they are attainable can be quite challenging. Tonight, I will explore a method to help me set meaningful goals for the upcoming year and delve into the concept of doubling my goals to gauge my true passion and commitment.

Before we delve into the process of doubling goals, I’ll start with the initial challenge: defining my goals for the next year. Many of us share a common enthusiasm for learning new skills and embarking on exciting projects. However, if you are like me, we find ourselves bouncing from one endeavor to another, never truly seeing anything through to completion.

One of the primary issues is the tendency to set too many goals simultaneously, leading to a sense of overwhelm and eventual burnout. To overcome this challenge, it's essential to not only set goals but to set the right goals and prioritize them effectively. This is an area where I can focus on improving.

To begin, I’ll take some time to reflect on what I genuinely want to achieve in the next year. My goals are targeted on personal development, my career, health, and aspirational achievements. Once I have identified my goals, it's time to explore my commitment and level of passion for each one. To do this, I’ll imagine what it would be like to double each of my goals. For example, if one of my goals is to read 12 books in a year, I’ll double it to 24 books. If you plan to walk 5k, I’ll now envision walking 10k. The key here is to stretch my imagination and consider what it would take to achieve twice as much.

Next, I’ll assess my emotions regarding the doubled goals and pay close attention to how I feel. Am I excited, motivated, and eager to take on the challenge? If it’s a ‘heck yes,’ it's a good indicator that I am are passionate about that goal. On the other hand, if my immediate reaction is "no thank you" or if I feel too overwhelmed, it may be a sign that I need to revise or reconsider that goal.

Setting goals is not about quantity but quality. It's about selecting the goals that truly resonate with my passions and align with my long-term aspirations. By doubling my goals in my imagination and gauging your emotional response, you can gain valuable insights into which goals are worth pursuing with unwavering determination.

In the pursuit of personal growth and achievement, setting and achieving goals is an essential part of the journey. However, it's just as important to ensure that the goals we set align with our true passions and have a realistic chance of success. The doubling challenge allows me to gauge my enthusiasm and commitment, helping me focus on the goals that matter most.

Remember, it's okay to have multiple interests and passions, but by carefully selecting and prioritizing your goals, we can channel our energy into meaningful accomplishments and increase our chances of seeing them through to completion.
