Day 40 – Going on a Date [with Myself]
Today's challenge in the Hello, Fears journal presented a proposition: getting to know myself better through a date with the person I've known the longest—myself. Little did I know that this opportunity would naturally open up before me, ready to offer moments of self-education, parental pride, and reconnection with myself.
My son's involvement in the school's marching band event—a whirlwind of pancake breakfasts, parades, and pep rallies—set the stage for a morning that would be both heartwarming and educational.
With my son safely delivered to school, I found myself amidst the buzz of the cafeteria. Seated at an unoccupied table, I embraced the free time before the parade commenced to engage in a different kind of self-indulgence—self-education. Watching a video that offered insights into streamlining the book-writing and publishing process, coupled with tips on effective marketing and course creation, I felt a sense of forward momentum. These were steps not only toward enhancing my knowledge but also cultivating a future where my creative endeavors could flourish.
Taking a step outside, I positioned myself against the building, hiding from the sun’s rays, hoping to catch a glimpse of my son as he prepared for the parade. As I wrote in my journal, he walked past. I leapt up and offered a wave and smile, conveying my love and pride; words would only embarrass him in this moment.
As the parade commenced, my camera captured my son's steadfast march. I marveled at his dedication, his determination, and the commitment he demonstrated despite not feeling his best. The sweltering heat didn't deter his resolve, and his resilience was a mirror reflecting my own aspirations. With each step he took, he embodied the spirit of courageousness, reminding me of the challenges we each face and conquer in our individual ways.
In ways both subtle and profound, today's challenge was met and exceeded. A solo date with myself turned into a morning of connection, learning, and celebration. Through my son's accomplishments, I discovered nuances of my own resilience, reminding me that self-discovery is a continuous journey that embellishes the landscapes of our lives.
As the sun is setting on this day, I carry with me a renewed sense of self-awareness and a deeper appreciation for the bonds that connect us. Today's date with myself unfolded beyond my expectations, leaving me humbled and grateful for the moments that shape our lives and of the power I carry inside me.
