Day 38 – Accepting and Improving

Today’s challenge is a two-parter. I get to answer the following questions:

  • What is one thing about myself that I am willing to accept? How does it make me feel?

  • What is one thing about myself that I would like to improve in the following month? How will the improvement help me grow?

I like these questions because they make me think about the “why” behind my choices, and that can be difficult to do when something is just a gut feeling. Mastermind Dean Graziosi says we should ask ourselves “why” seven times when we’re trying to get to the truth of an initial response.

One thing about myself that I am willing to accept is that my nose is going to be an alarming shade of red 24/7 for the remainder of my life. It was a normal color before my nasal surgery several years ago and has shone as bright as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’s ever since.

The ever-scarlet hue leaves me feeling self-conscious about a part of my body that I’ve always really been quite satisfied with. I can get down in the dumps about it if I dwell on the questions that I get from people inquiring about it.

One thing about myself that I would like to improve in the following month is increasing my waning level of physical activity. Specifically, making sure I get out and walk every day, even if for a little while. I have spent more time sitting on my behind in the past four days than the past four weeks and I don’t want to lose the momentum I gained while I was unemployed.

Not only will improving my physical activity keep me healthy but I may also be able to get back into some of my dress pants that are fitting a little snugger these days.

I am also doing another challenge right now, called the Better Life Challenge. It’s a supplement to The Better Life Journal created by Dean Graziosi. I learned about Dean earlier this summer when I attended an all-day virtual event hosted by Dean and Matthew McConaughey.

The task for that other challenge yesterday was to say “no” to something. I chose to say “no” to elevators and “yes” to stairs. I believe this will help me with my commitment to today’s challenge of improving something over the next month. Fingers crossed!
